Popup? -  Why didn't smasher stop a pop-up ad? Most of the time smasher will automatically stop all popup ads. But since it is an intelligent popup stopping program, sometimes it makes a dumb decision and lets a popup through. We are constantly teaching smasher not to do these dumb things, so you should keep an eye out for updates or let us know if they consistently get through. Smasher will stop popups automatically and you have the power to override these settings by going into the popup control. The popup control will display all the links for popup ads that it has allowed or blocked. You can force smasher to always block popups for any link by clicking on the "Block Link" or "Block Site" button.

If you don't see the popup link in the "Popup Control", it may be the result of some software installed on your pc. This software is ad supported and you generally have agreed to see the ads if it is installed on your PC. If you have not agreed to see pop-ups then the software may be "Spy Ware". Here is a list of programs you should un-install unless you would like to continue using them:

"Gator eWallet or Offer Companion" - Task Manager programs: "gator.exe", "Gmt.exe", "CMESys.exe" To remove the program "Gator eWallet" or "Offer Companion":

  5. Find the "Gator eWallet" or "Offer Companion" names in the list.
  6. Click on each one and click "Remove" button.

"ClickSpring/Purity Scan" - Task Manager program is "WINSERVS.EXE" To remove the program "ClickSpring/Purity Scan" program, follow the above "Gator" removal steps or the following:

  1. Right click on the "Start" Button in your taskbar.
  2. Click on "Explore" menu (2nd menu from top).
  3. The"Start Menu" folder should be highlighted.

IE Problems? -  Why don't my shortcut links open when launched from my desktop or from "Start" button "Favorites" menu? This is normal the result of the "Power Block" item checked in the "Popup Control" . Uncheck it and the problem will go away. You can always hold the "CTRL" key down while clicking on these links if you would like to keep the "Power Block" turned on. The "Power Block" option is designed to prevent any link from opening that is not your home page. This option is useful for programs installed on your PC that launch internet explorer.

IE Problems? -  Why doesn't the link I click on do something? The link you are clicking on may open in a new browser window and smasher may be blocking it. If you visit the link quite often, you can allow it in the Pop-Up Control. Or just hold the "CTRL" key down while clicking on the link. The"Ctrl" key disables smasher while it is being held down.

IE Problems? - I went to a new site and all I got was a blank screen. What's wrong?
Some sites make extensive use of "floating" or "flash" displays, which Smasher blocks unless you tell it not to. Open the Smasher Popup Control screen, select the site you are visiting, and click on "Allow site". Close the Smasher control screen and click on Refresh. The site should now display correctly.
You can temporarily suspend Smasher at any time by holding down the "Ctrl" key and clicking on the link.

IE Problems? -  Why can't I open some links in my email?
You probably won't like hearing this information. But you need to know why these things happen. The link that won't open in your email or even a web page may be a redirection link that is sending information back to the sender that you clicked on the link. The information sent back may just be recording how many people clicked on the link, or it may be sending your email address or something that identifies the email was sent to you. This is how you get even more spam email. This simple click tells the advertisers the link is of interest to you and they will send you more spam email If you don't mind opening your windows and letting them all look in to see what things you like, then by all means click away. We have been improving smasher to allow these kind of links, but we don't like it.
You can temporarily suspend Smasher at any time by holding down the "Ctrl" key and clicking on the link.

General? - Why we do not have an AOL version? Well Folks, quite honestly, AOL can track your habits through their browser. Just think of all the statistics they are gathering on you. Is it not funny how the pop-ups you see are sites you visited? Have you ever tried browsing using Internet Explorer, instead of AOL's explorer? Just connect using AOL and then minimize AOL. Start Internet explorer and you will see a difference browsing. Much faster!
